Seven days gives you room to add a genuine taste of the interior without committing to a multi-day expedition. This plan builds on the 5-day Paramaribo and Commewijne route and adds two days in Brokopondo, the easiest and most accessible jungle destination from the capital.
Days 1 to 4: Paramaribo and Commewijne
Follow the 5-day itinerary for your first four days, compressing slightly: two to three days in Paramaribo covering the historic inner city, Fort Zeelandia, and the Central Market, then a day trip across the river to Commewijne for the plantation estates and river dolphins.
Days 5 and 6: Brownsberg and the Brokopondo Reservoir
Brownsberg Nature Park is about a two-hour drive from Paramaribo, making it the most accessible piece of genuine rainforest near the capital. It sits above the vast Brokopondo Reservoir, one of the largest reservoirs in South America, and combines short jungle trails, waterfalls, and wildlife spotting with views over the flooded forest below. This is also Maroon territory, and many day trips and overnight stays here include a visit to a Maroon village along the reservoir, giving you a first, accessible look at a culture that's otherwise hardest to reach.
An overnight stay near the reservoir is worth it if your schedule allows, since it turns this into a relaxed two-day trip rather than a long single-day round trip from the capital.
Day 7: Return and flex day
Head back to Paramaribo with a day to spare before your flight out. Use it for anything you missed in the city, or simply as a buffer in case the Brokopondo leg ran long, since road conditions and river-dependent activities don't always run exactly on schedule.
