If you have 10 to 14 days, you can go beyond the coast and reservoir day trips into Suriname's actual deep interior. This is where the country's reputation for untouched Amazon rainforest is earned, and it requires more planning than the shorter itineraries, since almost everything past the coast runs through a tour operator or lodge rather than independently.
Days 1 to 5: The coast and Brokopondo
Start with the 7-day itinerary as your base: Paramaribo, a Commewijne day trip, and two days around Brownsberg and the Brokopondo Reservoir. This gives you a full, comfortable introduction to the country before the more demanding interior leg.
Days 6 to 12: A river lodge or expedition in the deep interior
This is the core of the trip, and it's worth choosing one destination rather than trying to combine several, since interior travel eats time. Two realistic options:
A multi-day river lodge stay, reached by charter flight from Paramaribo's Zorg en Hoop airport (sometimes combined with a boat transfer), puts you deep in Sipaliwini, Suriname's largest and most remote district, covering most of the country's Amazon interior. Lodges here typically run guided programs covering wildlife spotting, river excursions, and visits to Indigenous or Maroon communities, and packages commonly run 3 to 4 nights, which you could combine with a second lodge or a longer stay to fill the full 10 to 14 days.
A river expedition to sites like Raleighvallen trades some comfort for a more active trip, often involving multiple days of riverboat travel to reach primary rainforest and rapids that aren't accessible any other way. Some of the more remote lodges, such as Kabalebo, are reachable only by small aircraft.
Either route is a genuine expedition rather than a sightseeing day trip, and both are almost always arranged through a tour operator who handles the flights, boats, permits, and guiding as a package. Since June 2025, Suriname has been certified malaria-free by the World Health Organization, the first country in the Amazon region to reach that status, which simplifies health preparation for interior trips compared to what older guides still recommend.
Days 13 to 14: Return to Paramaribo
Build in at least a day of buffer before your international flight. Interior transport runs on river and weather conditions more than fixed schedules, and a same-day connection from a remote lodge to an international departure is a risk not worth taking.
